Of Cognac and Cointreau: Adventures with my Parents
I went to Petoskey shopping with my parents for a few hours this afternoon.? I went mainly to change up my routine because I am two days smoke free today, and wanted to get out of the house and away from regular habits.
We had a really nice time, didn’t do anything too fancy.? Stopped at the Meyer Hardware store, where I found a package of bamboo skewers for grilling, 100 for just $2.79.? Now I’m all set to make my?bbq?Spam kabobs?and I can’t wait to make them, they’re going to be soooo the yum!
We also hit Home Depot, the main destination point, where my mother found a faucet adaptor for her dishwasher, and I priced power washers and porch paint.? After a stop at the new Oleson’s grocery store for a donut, we drove home.? On the way, somehow my dad and I got on the subject of cooking/baking and liquers.? We argued (friendly, of course) about whether Cognac is a liquer…and whether Grand Marinier is cognac…and what’s the name for orange liquer again (Cointreau)? And cherry (Ginjinha, among four others)?? We couldn’t agree on anything, so I told him to check his email when he got home…I was going to look all this up on the internet and give us both an education.? The upshot is we were both partially correct.? If you click on the links, they will take you to Wikipedia, and you will be treated to an education on liquers of all types as well as Cognac and Grand Marinier.
I had a really fun time with?my folks today, it was nice to spend time with them, and we learned something interesting to boot.? Cheers Mom and Dad! Thank you!
S.
