The morrow was a bright September morn;
The earth was beautiful as if new-born;
There was that nameless splendor everywhere
That wild exhilaration in the air.

Holiday Gift Giving: The Chex Mix Edition

In my house, the?harbinger of the arrival of the winter holiday season is that first batch of Chex Mix.? The smell is sublime.? I wish Bath and Body Works could bottle that smell in a room spray.? I think I would buy them out.?

I’ve been craving Chex Mix early this year for some reason, I normally don’t make my first batch till right before Thanksgiving.? This year, I made it a full two weeks before Hallowe’en.? And it was heavenly.? I spent all day last Saturday floating around my kitchen humming Christmas carols and wearing my Normal Rockwell apron with bells on the pockets, making Chex Mix.

It’s nice that WalMart had Chex? brand cereal on sale for $2 a box.? It’s normally?in the?$3.12 range, so this was a big enough savings that I bought 5 boxes.? Enough to keep me in Chex Mix til’ New Years.? I’m grinning from ear to ear.? Life doesn’t get much better. Except when shredded cheese goes on sale.?

I wanted to blog about this last year, but was using MySpace.? Not an ideal blogging platform.? That’s water under the bridge now, and look…it’s that time of year again already, and I can bring you this fun and information packed post about my favorite holiday snack, since I have my own hosting space.? See what I did there? I wised up.

I’ve linked the Chex Mix Recipe homepage a bunch of times now.? But wait…they’ve broken things down into categories…sweet mixessalty mixesmicrowavable mixes and gluten free mixes.? See what they did there? They wised up.? Everything you’re looking for, right at your finger tips.? I love that.? Only want salty mixes? There you go.? Looking for Gluten Free? Bam.? There you have it.

I made Original flavor Chex Mix.? Of course I tweaked it.? I can’t help myself.? I added 1 cup of cashew pieces and substituted Cheezit? Crackers for bagel chips.? I also doubled the butter and the seasonings.?

I love using the premade seasoning packets that Chex gives away when you buy a box of cereal…mixed with 6 tablespoons of butter, it tastes like making it from scratch.? It’s a delicious convenience when you’re being lazy.

Munchy, crunchy comfort food.? I’m in love.

Here’s your closeup.? I can smell it from here. Dee-lish.

Do you make Chex? Mix at the holidays? Do you make it other times of the year?? Do you love this stuff as much as I do?

    MMmmmm! That DOES look delicious!! Put some in the microwave for me and send it along!

  • ohmygoshStacey…I made chex mix the same day that you posted this!! I had to hide it (from me and the Mister) so we wouldn’t eat it all in one sitting…

    Just an idea you might like and everyone I make it for loves….add a few cups of Bugles! It’s always the first ingredient to disappear.
