I am kicking myself for not taking pictures of the “before” state of my front hall.? Nothing I can about it now, but suffice it to say the wall paper was ugly.? The layer under that was better, albeit “country” style from the late 80′s, early 90′s.? I was wanting something simple and fresh, that would go with the autumn colored tile I will eventually put down.? Whoever thought of linoleum had to have been high.? It was just a bad idea that the home interior industry ran with. (I know, I know…cheap and affordable.)
Anyhow, over the course of the past two months, I Killz’d the hall and finally finished painting it yesterday.? I hated the Killz step.? Yes, I know, it covers a multitude of sins and helps your paint to stick…but the clean up for that crap is horrible, and I went through over a gallon of mineral spirits in the clean up.? There has GOT to be a better way.? By the time I was done with that part, I had no desire to actually paint the hall.? So I took a month off.
Saturday found me at the furniture store, looking for a replacement for my ghetto couch.? The ghetto couch was a cheap green fabric monstrosity.? It didn’t start out that way, but in the 8 years of its life, dedicated to serving my family and our pets (the very bane of furniture, I am convinced…I have a water bottle at the ready this time), it became this gross, disgusting thing and I just couldn’t take it anymore.? I was embarassed to have people over to our house.
Painting completion and furniture delivery came together in a happy union that I am pleased to share with you now in a few photos.? I am in love with my house.
This is a shot of my neighborhood.? It doesn’t have anything to do with my furniture or my painting…but it’s so beautiful today, I thought I would share.
One peek at my hall.? All I can say is that while paint exposes every flaw a house has, I love the paint job here.? Hot cocoa and oatmeal.? I feel toasty just looking.
Another view of my hall.? I wanted you to see the cute little Jack-Be-Littles and Baby Boo pumpkins my dad grew.? I will eventually replace the trim in the hall too, but the stuff I want is kinda pricy, so it might be a while.
This is my dining room table and chairs.? They are oak.? They weigh a ton.? Very sturdy, and very beautiful.? They make me happy inside…can’t wait to serve a dinner here.
One view of the living room.? The only thing not new are the lamps, wall decor, etc.? See Daisy? My cat who thinks she’s human? She has ensconced herself on the sofa back already.? I am torn…she’s not hurting anything, do I shoo her off because it’s new?
Another view of the living room.? I am a happy camper.
This little puppy is comfy.? And it has a queen size sleeper tucked in there.? See Spottles? She’s already looking for a way to the window via the back of the couch.
Perfect for TV viewing.? Speaking of which…
This big ole’ thing will be set up later.? The delivery guys said it needs to sit at room temperature for like 12 hours before you turn it on.? So I’ll hook it up later and we’ll see.? Not that it matters, the old TV is in my room as we speak, and let me tell ya…the movie experience is wicked with a 35″ screen so close to your bed, even if it isn’t an LCD screen.? I know.? I was up till 1 a.m. this morning watching Rob Roy in close up big screen beauty.
I hope you enjoyed the mini tour of my house.? I don’t often show people these things, but I am bursting with satisfaction and happiness, so I thought “what the heck.”
