Classic This Just In

This kit appealed to me immediately because of the packaging.? It just had “super fun” written all over it.? The fact that it was an animal themed kit would make Little Man happy too.?

Given how much I really like the?Wizard Magic Cookie Kit?by Sassafrass, I figured this would be a winner too.?

The one reservation I had was the black gel decoration.? Have you ever tasted black icing coloring or gel? It does not taste good.? In fact it’s downright grody. (Grody?! Really? Did I just say that? That is so 80′s.)?I didn’t let this stop me however.? My desire for Little Man to experience Zebra Cupcakes overrode my apprehension.? This was a good thing.

This is the kit.? Is it not totally irresistable??

The cupcake liners are zebra striped.? Too doggone cute!

The batter was easy to mix up, Little Man did it all by himself.

He also frosted them by himself, but I mixed up the icing.

After frosting the cupcakes, he added the eyes.

?The stripes came next.? This was not the easiest thing for Little Man to do.? We tried to follow the picture on the box.?

After I decorated one to demonstrate how, he did the decorating all by himself.? He was very excited and pleased with the way they turned out.

This is our personal herd of zebras.? They were eaten very quickly.? Good thing I took this picture.

My concerns about the black gel tasting grody were for naught.? By itself, the gel is not pleasant tasting.? On the finished cupcakes however, it was another story.? The chocolate cake mix was so rich and delicious it actually negated the icky black icing taste.? These cupcakes were really, REALLY good.? Evan handed one out to everyone who came into the house after he had two himself of course.? Mommy had her requisite taste and was really pleased as well.

I paid $16.95 for this kit at Zany Kitchen in Cheboygan.? The kits are $14.95 online, but you will pay shipping.? Normally I would say this is vastly overpriced–you only get 6-7 cupcakes.? But what you’re buying here is not just the kit, but the fun and the experience.? Considering how often I bake every day things?with my son (a lot) this was money well spent in changing things up and providing something unusual to do.? And the product itself tasted really good.? I highly recommend this kit for a special occasion in the kitchen with your kids.
