You might remember that some time ago, I made a huge batch of home made laundry soap.? I love this stuff and will never use store bought laundry soap again.? I gave my mom some to try, and she too is hooked.? Yesterday, she asked if we might find a home made fabric softener recipe.? So I typed it into the handy dandy internet search engine and I found the following recipe at Recipezaar.

Home Made Fabric Softener

Ingredients:

1 gallon nonoporous container (I used a plastic milk jug)

6 C. very hot tap water

3 C. white vinegar

2 C. hair conditioner of?your choice

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a 1 gallon container and stir well.? Do not shake to avoid foaming.? Makes 1/2 gallon.

I made this myself yesterday using some Suave Bio Basics I had left in the shower.? I used a funnel to pour all the ingredients into the jug.? Then I put the cap on and shook it up, even though the directions said don’t.? There was no foaming.? This stuff thickened up as it cooled, and resembles the kind of liquid fabric softener you buy in the store.?

You would think you’d smell the vinegar, but you don’t.? The softener takes on the scent of whatever conditioner you use.? When used in a load of laundry, it goes in smelling nice, but when your clothes are done, there is next to no smell at all.?

My clothes came out soft, with no static cling.? While there wasn’t?any real scent to my clothes, there’s nothing that says you can’t add a few drops of essential oil to the mixture if you want a more obvious smell.? I am thrilled to pieces, because this stuff only costs .04 cents per half cup use and works wonderfully.? One more product I will never pay store prices for again.
