Gardening and Lawn Care: The March 2010 Edition

Due to the unseasonably warm weather caused by a seemingly early spring, I am out in my yard getting it ready for summer.?

This is the first year I’m going to garden?and I am very excited by the prospect.? Yard work is time consuming and laborious though, as my leetle hands are finding out.? I have a blister on my left hand from raking the other day without gloves, and a large, painful splinter in the center of my right palm from pulling stalks of whatever weeds that grew last year…again without gloves.?

I’ve since decided I need gloves.? I remedied that situation with an adorable pair of pale blue and green garden gloves.? My hands have never loved me more.

My front yard, not shown in this post, is raked and ready to go.? My back yard however…well, let’s just say I’ve only hit the tip of the iceberg here folks.

My shabby fence garden…I desperately want and need new fencing.? I don’t have the faintest idea how to research it though.? Perhaps by the end of summer I will figure that one out.? I do know I want plastic fencing…so much easier to care for.

My awesome wheelbarrow! A genuine steal at $5.00 from the yard sale across the street last summer.? I am sublimely happy with this purchase–both in principal and in product!

It’s nearly time…I’m just waiting for that last snow…then I’ll be cleaning my deck furniture, power washing the deck, and getting out the summer barbeque.? The Road Trip?is what we use to bbq in winter.

This is a side view of my house…and the gorgeous trees that bloom pink and white on the side.? The tulips that bloom there are a deep blood red and are absolutely stunning.? I’m still deciding what I want to put in the concrete planter by the Shed (behind those doors with the paint peeling off around them is a nice size “closet” that I keep outdoor things in–I just call it the Shed).

The one other thing I need to do is figure out which lawn care product to use.? I have a nettle problem.? You know, those wannabe dandelions that just don’t cut it, so they bitterly grow spikes that pierce your unsuspecting toes as you run across the lawn?? Yeah, those.? I loathe them.? And I would like to see them gone.

? I have heard of Weed n’ Feed…will this work on my nettle problem? I don’t want my grass to die, just those pesky (and painful) nettles.? And as pretty as they are, I don’t think I would mind the dandelions taking a header either.

Your lawn care product recommendations are welcome, as I am vastly uneducated (much to my shame) about such matters.
