Classic This Just In

Daily Archives: August 13, 2010

We spent all afternoon at our County Fair yesterday.

The weather was incredibly hot and humid.   This however, didn’t deter us or many others from attending.

Little Man has worked hard this summer, selling vegetables and raspberries out of grandpa’s garden, and he had a nice amount of money to spend at the fair because of it.

He got the obligatory wrist band so he could ride the rides as many times as he wanted.

He had a great time, and even got brave and decided to tackle this beast:

“What was I thinking?! Do I really want to do this? No going back now!”

That’s my boy in the #5 seat.

He says he’s never doing that again.  Right.  Till next year.

Little Man played games.

Ridiculously expensive, probably rigged and staffed by older-men-in-funny-hats games.  But we knew that going in.

He won prizes too.

Oooh, aaaahh, fabulous prizes!

These two darling sharks cost my son $10.

That’s 3.33 pints of raspberries kid. (Here’s the no nonsense momma coming out in me.)

But it was his money, and he was allowed to spend it as he wished.

And he had a great time doing it.

All his hard work allowed him to have all the “extras” at the fair too…

He got an ice cream from the ice cream man.

He’d been going through withdrawals; the ice cream man had his truck at the fair all week and didn’t make his twice weekly run by our house.

So that Bubblegum Swirl pop fix was a big deal, man!

He got to feed the goats at the petting zoo.

And while he’s not nearly as fascinated with lemurs as he used to be, he still thinks they’re terribly cute and loves the pictures I got of them.

He rode a camel…

And then, my sweet, innocent baby! Then my little darling with the sparkling eyes and dimple on the right side of his chin…informed me he was a tough guy and was gonna get a tattoo!

Nothing quite prepares you for your eight year old to have a tattoo…

Much less a red and blue…

Eight inch long dragon!  Good gravy it covers his entire forearm!

I have to tell you that this is just a temporary, airbrushed tattoo (like you didn’t know this already, but it makes me feel better).

The guy who applied it did a fantastic job.  He answered all of Little Man’s pressing questions too.

Like “Why do you have to put that disgusting smelling powder on my arm?” (“That’s baby powder, to keep the ink dry.”)

After the tattoo fun, we had one more thing to do before we left.

Every year, Little Man does the EuroBungee.

This is a fun little jumping contraption that sends small children high into the air where they can spin, flip or just keep jumping higher.

I’m pretty sure that this was one of the things that caused my sweet, small son to wolf down an entire Quarter Pounder meal from McDonald’s at the conclusion of our day.

He even got a large Coke!

We came home sweaty, sunburned and exhausted.

After showers and swimming, we went to bed earlier than we have all summer.

Little Man says it was the best day of his life.  I think it ranked pretty high on the list for me too.
