The Simple Woman’s Day Book August 23, 2010

I am thinking… ~that I am going to take a break from canning until apples are ready.  I might make lemon or raspberry curd if the urge strikes, but no pressure.

I am thankful for… ~the way I was raised.  There are certain things I value that are a dying way of life…home grown produce, canned or frozen for the winter; home grown meat with no steroids or monkey business in it; hard work and simple pleasures like laughing and talking with friends and family.

I am wearing… ~a teal capped sleeve shirt and tan leggings.

I am remembering… ~what a great time I had with my parents picking blackberries this week.  I genuinely enjoyed my time with them.

I am going… ~to spend more time with my parents.  I didn’t really do this while I was in the throes of depression and I miss visiting with them.

I am currently reading…”Under the Dome” by Stephen King.  Excellently written as always.  Just finished Delay, Deny, Defend, a book about the inner workings of the insurance industry in the US.

I am hoping…~that I can get Little Man on schedule for school bedtime.  He’s fighting it for all he’s worth.  This continues.  He doesn’t want summer bed time to end…EVER.

On my mind… ~paying down/paying off bills.  It’s coming along nicely, but I want more progress.

Noticing that… ~the leaves are starting to turn.

Pondering these words… “You are my sunshine, my little sunshine…” I used to sing this to both my boys when they were really little.  They are both still my sunshines, more now than ever.

From the kitchen… ~Lasagna, Chicken Sandwiches, Pulled pork and no more canning.  Last week alone I made seedless blackberry jam (2 batches), seedless raspberry jam and pear butter.  I need a little break to keep it fun.

Around the house… ~general maintenance.  Getting ready to tackle the basement.  That is a real job, two rooms of ugly.

One of my favorite things ~spending time with my girlfriends.  I don’t really have very many, so when I do get to do something fun with one of them, it’s always great.
