Daily Archives: December 2, 2010
I couldn’t come up with a clever post title to say that I’m just going to talk for a little bit here. Honestly, I’ve been so tired lately that blogging, while on my mind, just has not become a reality. And here it is, December already. Getting ready for that ‘year in review’ post. Where did the time go? 2010 flew by with lightning speed.
Lately I’ve been busy with guests and making Chex mix. My sister was here for a week, along with her kids (different kids at various points), my niece and nephew, and my brother and his daughter spent a good deal of time here as well.
My days fall into a routine: Get up in the morning, see Little Man off to school. Check into Facebook, get a shower, get dressed get ready for work. Do housework, go to work. Come home, check into Facebook, do housework or prep dinner; pick up Little Man from school, come home, supervise homework if any, make dinner. Clean up dinner, get Little Man on the path toward bed time. Do you see where this is going? Sandwiched between these daily activities are things like crafting, organizing, decorating, gift wrapping and the myriad tasks that come with this time of year.
Next week I’m hosting my annual cookie exchange. I started this last year and it was very successful, we had nearly everyone who came last year sign up again this year. As we speak I am baking cranberry orange oatmeal cookies with white chocolate and walnuts. This is one of three or four varieties that will grace my cookie boxes this year. I like to make all the goodies a few days ahead and freeze them, it sure saves me time. Thank goodness I decided to keep my old refrigerator downstairs, I have plenty of cold storage for times like this!
We have a three day weekend this weekend as the teachers are preparing report cards tomorrow. This is nice for me because I will be decorating my Christmas tree (this should be almost finished by now, but all of my lights, save for one string, were burned out. What a pain. Not to mention $50 bucks to replace them.)
Last weekend we added a new member to our family, a black Pom puppy named Bear. He is totally adorable, and we all just love him. He follows Little Man around every where he goes. I’ve got pictures, I posted a few on Facebook, but I haven’t introduced him to blog readers yet.
I’m also thinking I will be taking this blog in yet a different direction in 2011.
I focused a lot on recipes this past year, and while I enjoy that, I am not a food blogger and have no real desire to be one at this point. It feels good to say that outloud, because for a while, I wasn’t sure. Food bloggers are a dime a dozen, period. I love being able to read all those blogs, and admire their photographs; do I want to spend that much time on it myself? Not really. At that point it isn’t fun for me anymore, it’s work. I enjoy baking, cooking and all things kitchen related with a passion…and that’s how I’d like to keep it.
I think I’ll be heading back to posting more stuff like this…observances, daily life things, general musings. Posting photos of my life, my house, flowers, my crafting projects etc. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll post recipes too, but they won’t be the primary focus of this blog. This is typical me anymore, trying to figure out where I want to take things and trying it out. I know that I don’t want to be like any of the bloggers I read regularly. While I enjoy the things I have in common with them, I don’t want to be a clone. My ‘theme’ for 2010 was freedom. For 2011, it will be uniqueness.
This theme will permeate every aspect of my life, just as freedom did. 2011 is going to be an interesting year, to say the least!
Well, the last of my cookies are finished, I need to pull them from the oven. Little Man is telling me the 100 reasons why he needs a microscope, and I have a ladie’s tea to get ready for.
Have a great evening my friends!
S.
