A couple of days before Christmas, Little Man’s dad and I took him to the Petoskey Winter Sports Park with a friend, to catch some sledding action after dark.
This was a really big deal, man. The ‘after dark’ part, that is.
This is normally something that Little Man does with his dad, and I don’t go along for many of their outdoor adventures. But they invited me, so I said “Why not?” and I brought my little point and shoot along. Taking pictures at this location has made me realize what a crappy photographer I am, and how much I have to learn yet. I am going to investigate taking a class or two in 2011.
Here are the boys just after we arrived:
It’s a long way up to the top of the hill.
But once they got to the top…hilarity (for me anyway) ensued. Check out the video below. It’s very brief, but indicative of how my son went down the hill, each and every time he went. I laughed until my sides hurt.

There’s an awesome warming house there too, which we used a couple of times (we were there for two and a half hours). It had a fireplace and simple concession stand, along with ice skate rentals. Evan and I have decided to go back soon and rent skates.
Sledding and skating are just two of the activities you can do there…there is a hill for snowboarding and skiing (with a tow rope!), and a hockey rink as well. The best part about the whole thing? It’s all free. Talk about wonderful for everyone in Petoskey and surrounding communities.
Little Man said it was the best night of his life–his best friend and both of his parents together doing something he loves to do. I was thrilled to make my son so happy, and look forward to going back!
