FOR TODAY… from Stacey’s Daybook

Outside my window… ~10 degrees and dark.  I’m late posting today, but that’s alright.  That’s why I blog for myself…I can do it on my own schedule.  I was actually feeling guilty about not blogging this week, but I had a lot going on, and on top of it, I have two sick boys on my hands.
I am thinking… ~that I am going to like reading on my new eReader.  I got a Barnes and Noble NOOK™ and I am really excited to get started.

I am thankful for… ~my car.  I went seven years with no vehicle once, in a midsized town.  I was forced to walk to work in horrible weather, beg for rides home in the dark late at night after work, and rely on public bus transportation.  This week, my car was rear ended by an 18 year old kid who was busy TEXTING on his cell phone:

His CARELESSNESS resulted in $5688 in damage to my vehicle.   Needless to say, I was NOT happy.  No injuries, not even an airbag deployment…but oh the monetary damages!

I am wearing… ~a black scoop neck top and khakis.

I am remembering… ~the days before cell phones…you know, when we would use a pay phone…one of those ancient relics that my Little Man won’t even know existed.  On Friday, I had to switch from Alltel to Verizon (they merged) and get a Verizon device.   While I was at it, I upgraded to a smart phone with data.  I got the LG Vortex  and I really, really like it a lot.  The unlimited data plan lets me do much on the go, it’s kinda fun!

I am going… ~to really think about my Diet Pepsi addiction.  I want to eliminate pop from my diet.

I am currently reading…~nothing, again.  I did however, order a NOOK.  I know last week I said I couldn’t afford it, and that’s true.  I can’t afford it out of my household budget–but I CAN afford it out of my unexpected state tax refund.  While most of that refund will go in the bank, I splurged a bit here.

I am hoping…~that my boys don’t stay sick for long.  On Saturday morning we had to take Little Man to Quick Care in Petoskey because he came home from his sleepover at his friend’s house super early with an earache.  Turned out that he has an ear infection, a severe cold and conjunctivitis.  Ear drops, eye drops and pencillin later, he’s on the mend although he still sounds like crap.  Toadie had a raging fever last night and has a terribly sore throat.  Chloraseptic seems to be helping, but isn’t able to talk much.  My poor babies!
On my mind… ~Little Man’s wardrobe.  I need to order him new pants in a bad way, he’s growing so much.  This spring is going to bring a major culling session to his dresser, because he’s going to be completely out of the sizes he’s in now.

Noticing that… ~this winter has been very, very cold with more snow than in the last four years.

Pondering these words… “If you’re not watching Egypt, your missing raw history in the making” My friend Nathan Pralle said this today on Facebook and it’s so true.  It will be interesting to see what the unrest in Egypt brings.  What I find most disconcerting is their apparent hatred of America/Americans.  I guess I need to research to see if we’ve done anything to these people to cause such vitriol.

From the kitchen… ~Grilled ham and cheese and chicken soup tonight; the rest of the week is unknown.  I made a chocolate cake with the yummiest icing yesterday at Little Man’s request.  I’ll be posting that icing recipe this week.

Around the house… ~laundry is done again this week, washed through put away.  I think that’s just becoming a habit.  Cleaned the microwave, moved the cat boxes and the recycling bins around, swept the basement floor; deep cleaned the upstairs bathroom and Lysol-ed my whole house.  I don’t want to get sick too!
One of my favorite things…~cotton weave blankets.  I gotta say, I love my blankie.
