Blue and Gold Banquet 2011
Pack 187′s Blue and Gold Banquet was held February 5, 2011.
Our pack is under new leadership this year and I have to say, I’m enjoying the fact that things are simple. They’re uncomplicated–no myriad hoops to jump through or long, overblown events. This Blue and Gold was just two hours long including our meal and the entertainment the boys prepared.
Little Man’s den did a really cute skit called “The Bacon Tree”. It was perfect for them, and ended with a corny joke that was actually quite clever and gave us a chuckle. All the boys did a great job with their skits, and there were a couple of really creative ones.
Little Man wasn’t feeling like giving me a good picture of him that day, so I took my shots where I could get them.
I have to confess…I teared up when the older boys crossed over from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. It’s such an accomplishment! They have to really do and learn quite a bit to get that far, and the bridge ceremony is a big deal. I will probably cry like a baby when Little Man finally gets there. After all, according to Toadie, I cry at commercials for cotton…of course I will.
Prior to that ceremony, there was another special ceremony for those who were earning their Bobcat badge. This was the first year they had something like this, but I loved it. Each parent (Akela) painted symbolic markings on their boy’s faces to show the meaning behind earning their Bobcat badge. This is Little Man’s friend and classmate Maxim, with his dad Allen. Maxim just joined Cub Scouts this year, and earned his Bobcat Badge while working on his Wolf badge.
Here’s to Pack 187 and another year of fun, learning and fellowship. Next month is Pinewood Derby…looking forward to that big time. We have a plan this year! Watch out everyone, Team Thomas is in the house!
